About Skype for Business Online

Skype for Business (SFB) online is Microsoft’s SaaS offering of Microsoft’s Lync\Skype for Business On premise product. It provides IM & conferencing capabilities. It has deep integration with other Microsoft products in productivity space like Exchange/Outlook and SharePoint.

Business value of this product is increase in employee productivity by using enhanced presence across all products, allowing employees work from anywhere, take part in meetings while travelling. Its also a great tool to increase connect with customers & vendors. You can schedule a meeting and anyone can join the meeting from almost any devices even if they don’t use SFB. It supports HD video calling, desktop/application sharing, white boarding etc. that is required to collaborate effectively.

You can get SFB online by either buying the Standalone plans or as part of Office 365 offering. Below is what each plan offers and approximate cost.

Skype for Business – Plan 1 – 1,600.00 INR (approximate cost per user per year)

Basic plan gives you IM & presence, you can do audio or video calls but it doesn’t allow you to schedule meetings & desktop sharing.

Skype for Business – Plan 2 – 4,200.00 INR (approximate cost per user per year)

This plan has everything that SFB has to offer. You can schedule meetings, share screens and other interesting features are meeting recording, polling, whiteboard, One Note Sharing, meeting lobby and multiparty video.

Office 365 plans have all the features of SFB Online plan2, even the Small Business plans. In fact, it makes more sense to buy Office 365 to get SFB online. It will give you all the productivity offerings of Microsoft along with SFB. And as on date buying Office 365 business essentials is more cost effective that buying standalone SFB plans.
