We were looking for a trusted and experienced vendor to implement a Disaster Recovery solution for our organization. We were working with Mismo Systems for other cloud projects and found that they do have experience in implementing DRaaS solutions for enterprise customers. The project was awarded to them and everything went as planned with satisfactory results
Our client is running an enterprise-level business application on a VMware environment for 500 plus users. The application comprises one application server and one database server. Application is business-critical and availability of the application is key to run the business. Hence, it was very important to have low RPO and RTO. They were looking for a cloud Disaster Recovery solution, as the cost of setting up an on-premise disaster recovery solution is very high. The solution should also provide an easy way to test the DR as on several occasions Disaster Recovery plans do not work in a time of need.
They were looking for a disaster recovery services provider with prior experience in the implementation of a Disaster Recovery solution. A service provider will take a holistic approach by understanding the application, take care of the integrations, and then plan a solution that actually works.
They also wanted to test the solution before finalizing it.
Mismo Systems began the process by assessing the Client’s business needs and requirements from the proposed arrangement. Meetings were held with Application and Ops stakeholders.
After completing the assessment Mismo Systems planned for a solution that is cost-effective, reliable, and futuristic. Microsoft Azure Site Recovery or Azure ASR that is a Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) was used as a technology to achieve the goal. Azure Disaster Recovery offers cost-effectiveness, dependability, and ease of deployment.
Mismo Systems analyzed which data centre would have the lowest latency for the client and proposed it to the client. A Recovery Service Vault (RSV) was created which is an online storage entity that holds the recovery points and policies.
A configuration server was set up on-premises to replicate the application and database servers to the recovery services vault. After the initial replication was completed and RPO targets were met, it was decided to test the DR solution.
A DR drill action plan was created with dates and owners to perform various activities including DNS changes. Users were communicated in advance and the DR drill completed successfully as planned.
The DR solution was implemented successfully using Azure Site Recovery by Mismo’s cloud consulting team. Regular DR drills were planned to ensure that DR works when required.
